Dr. Yakavonis graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts degree from Bowdoin College and earned a Master degree in Medical Science at Boston University. He completed his doctorate in medicine at New York Medical College, where he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Further, Dr. Yakavonis completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Boston University Medical Center. While there, he received the Resident Research Award for his research into a novel operative technique for reducing ankle syndesmosis (high ankle sprain). He then completed fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery at the Harvard – Massachusetts General Hospital program. During fellowship, Dr. Yakavonis was awarded a national research grant from the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Yakavonis has published several peer reviewed scientific papers and is co-authoring a book chapter on foot and ankle conditions. He has presented his work at regional and national scientific meetings, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the Eastern Orthopaedic Association, and the New England Orthopaedic Society.
Dr. Yakavonis was named an Emerging Leader by the American Orthopaedic Association.
