ONS Biologic & Regenerative Medicine Center

THE BIOLOGICAL SOLUTION FOR MUSCULOSKETAL CONDITIONS

Surgery was once the only option to repair cartilage damage, ligament and tendon injuries, and mild to moderate arthritic conditions. Advances in biologic and regenerative medicine have changed that.

Using state-of-the-art techniques in an outpatient setting, ONS physicians can help patients heal from within to repair and, in some instances, regrow damaged tissues that either lack a natural healing environment or have not properly healed after an injury.

ONS specialists deliver high concentrations of platelets or stem cells. It is usually harvested from the patient’s own blood or tissue, using ultrasound-guided imagery precisely into the affected area to promote the natural healing process. These procedures involve minimal discomfort with little downtime. More importantly, the therapies prove to be extremely safe and patients can experience long lasting relief in as little as six to eight weeks.

WHAT WE TREAT

Biologic and regenerative therapies can successfully treat many common orthopedic conditions. For example, sports-related injuries, tendinitis in the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and  ankle, ligament injuries, tendon ruptures, painful conditions of the spine, as well as mild to moderate degenerative joint conditions such as osteoarthritis.

ONS specialists are also using biologic and regenerative medicine techniques during surgical procedures. This will augment the body’s own restorative capabilities and enhance outcomes.

Although regenerative medicine does not reverse the damage of arthritis, it may promote joint longevity by slowing the progression of the disease and providing pain-free mobility.

Learn more about the biologic and regenerative medicine program at ONS below and schedule an appointment with a physician to find out if regenerative medicine could work for you.

In general, insurance does not cover regenerative medical procedures. To speak with an ONS insurance specialist about your plan, call 203-869-1145, ext. 279.

For reasons not fully understood, some patients do not respond to today’s biologic treatments.  At ONS,  70% of patients who undergo a regenerative treatment experience relief within the first 2 months.  Depending on the procedure, and the patient’s individual condition, patients will not experience a recurrence of symptoms for one year or more.

BIOLOGIC AND REGENERATIVE TREATMENTS

PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP)

PRP  is a concentration of one type of cell, known as platelets, which circulate through the blood and are critical for blood clotting. Platelets and the liquid plasma portion of the blood contain many factors that are essential for the cell recruitment, multiplication and specialization that are required for healing.

With PRP therapy, a sample of the patient’s blood is put into ….

ADIPOSE DERIVED STEM CELLS

Stem cells are the foundation of many regenerative procedures. This is because they contain high levels of natural growth factors that promote healing and decrease inflammation. They are the only cells in the body that have the natural ability to develop into many different types of cells. They can also replicate without limit. Adipose-derived stem cells are best used …

AMNIOTIC MATRIX

Human amniotic membrane is comprised of the innermost layer of the placenta and lines the amniotic cavity. This membrane has more than 226 growth factors and cytokines that may enhance tissue growth and healing.

The membrane is acquired from normal full-term, live births with the mother’s consent ….

BONE MARROW ASPIRATE CONCENTRATE (BMAC)

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate is a non-surgical stem cell therapy procedure. It may help speed up recovery in patients who suffer from a number of orthopedic conditions, including arthritis. BMAC is obtained from the patient’s own bone marrow via an outpatient injection …

Bone Marrow Therapy

MATRIX-INDUCED AUTOLOGOUS CONDROCYTE IMPLANTATION

Although stems cells harvested from bone marrow have improved the quality of regenerated cartilage, the regenerated cartilage still lacks the exact properties of the native cartilage.

Matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI) is a surgical technique ONS physicians use to grow a patient’s own cartilage cells  ….
